Reliance Jio Leads Subscriber Growth In Telecom Sector

Reliance Jio continued to record strong subscriber additions and maintained its leadership in the home broadband segment. The report said the telecom industry showed steady recovery in January 2026, with net wireless subscriber additions rising to 2.4 million. This marks an increase from 1.5 million in December 2025, 0.9 million in November, and 0.4 million in October.

Among operators, Reliance Jio Infocomm added 1.6 million subscribers, while Bharti Airtel added 1.2 million and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited gained 0.4 million users. In contrast, Vodafone Idea lost 0.7 million subscribers during the same period.

Jio’s net wireless subscriber addition stood at 1.6 million in January, slightly lower than 1.8 million in December. Its active subscriber base, measured through Visitor Location Register (VLR), remained stable at 98.3 per cent.

In the home broadband segment, including fibre and 5G services, Jio continued to see strong growth, adding 0.78 million subscribers in January. This was mainly driven by the expansion of JioAirFiber services. In the 5G fixed wireless access segment, the company added 0.25 million users and held a leading market share of 70.9 per cent.

As per Telecom Regulatory Authority of India data, Jio remained the largest telecom provider with 503.57 million wireless subscribers. Overall, India’s total wireless subscriber base rose to 1,266.34 million, reflecting continued sector recovery.
