Three lakh voter names may be deleted

Patna

The Election Commission of India (ECI) may soon delete around three lakh more names from Bihar’s voter list as part of its ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), sources said on Friday.

The names being removed are mostly from the Seemanchal region — including Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj, Supaul, and Katihar — and belong to people who failed to submit identity proof despite several reminders. Officials say these voters did not respond even after receiving multiple notices.

Earlier this month, nearly 65 lakh names were already deleted from the rolls across the state. With only two days left in the revision process, the EC is expected to release a final list soon. Those affected will get one more chance to verify their records.

The EC said the purpose of the revision is to remove fake voters and ensure all genuine citizens are included.

Meanwhile, political parties have shown limited participation. Only 117 objections were filed — nine by RJD and 108 by CPI-ML. No other party submitted objections.

On the other hand, citizens actively responded. Over 2.11 lakh people applied to add their names, and more than 11.36 lakh Form-6 submissions were recorded during this revision drive.
