UDUPI
Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Karnataka’s Women and Child Development Minister and Udupi district in-charge, on Monday said social harmony is the true base of development. She spoke after hoisting the national flag on the 77th Republic Day in Udupi.
She said January 26 marks the day India began following its Constitution, giving equal rights and duties to all citizens. She remembered freedom fighters and urged people to protect justice, liberty and equality in daily life.
Hebbalkar said governments must support the weak, farmers, workers and small business owners. She stressed that growth should reach every home without bias of caste, religion, language or gender.
Listing welfare steps, she said special centers have been opened across the state to help women and children facing violence or neglect. Pre-primary classes are also being started in government schools to help poor children learn early.
Under food schemes, school children now get eggs six days a week. She said road works, farm support and skill training programs are improving rural life.
She highlighted the five guarantee schemes, saying they increased family income and confidence among women and youth. Tourism in coastal areas will also receive support, creating jobs and protecting nature.
She asked citizens, especially youth, to rise above divisions and build a peaceful and united society. Officials, local leaders, police staff and students attended the ceremony. She ended by calling on everyone to serve the nation with honesty, compassion and responsibility always. She said development must walk with moral values and respect for law. Together, people can protect India’s diversity and carry forward a proud democratic legacy for future generations to come peacefully and confidently.
Karnataka plans boost for coastal tourism
Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar said Karnataka is ready to develop tourism along its long coastline, including islands long ignored. Speaking after hoisting the national flag on Republic Day at St. Mary’s Island, she highlighted opportunities for jobs, business, and growth. Karnataka has 116 islands, most underused despite natural beauty. The government is improving facilities, protecting nature, and promoting responsible travel. Hebbalkar praised Coast Guard, police, fishermen, and volunteers for their dedication. She urged safety while serving the nation. Officials and local leaders joined, hoping coastal tourism grows sustainably with community support, benefiting everyone involved.
