“In order to conserve fish species, sea turtles are required to kill the Jelly fishes, the number of which is increasing fast. Plastic and other garbage strewn on sea shores is proving fatal to sea turtles. Fishermen who spend most of their time in sea should be the ambassadors of protection of sea turtles,” said Yaduveer Krishnadutta Chamaraja Odeyar of Mysuru dynasty.

Yaduveer was speaking after inaugurating the Turtle fest (Aame Habba), beach cleanliness, awareness on sea turtles, sand art and kite festival that was organized under the aegis of forest department, Clean Kundapura project, FSL India Ashraya and other organizations on Saturday April 30

Yaduveer further said, “A year ago I wished all success to the Kodi beach cleaning and protection of turtle eggs that was shared on social media by Clean Kundapur project. I was interested in this project right from that time. If protecting forest animals and forest is important in Mysuru, sea turtle protection is very much important in coastal area. We all have to work in tandem. Let our temples become the foundation for creating plastic free society.”

Speaking on the occasion, Prakash S Natalkar, chief conservator of forest Mangaluru said, “Pollution is increasing everywhere due to deforestation and garbage generation. Even beaches are not alien to this. Only if the locals partake with administration such projects will be successful.”
