Vice President Kamala Harris is tapping into the star power of the music industry to energize her campaign as she heads into the final weeks before the November presidential election. On the Saturday night, prominent musicians Lizzo and Usher joined her at events in Detroit and Atlanta, respectively, to rally voters.

At a ‘Get Out The Vote’ event in Detroit on October 19, Lizzo, a native of the city, expressed her support for Harris, telling the crowd, ‘I already voted early and I voted for Harris.’ Michigan is a crucial swing state that could influence the election outcome.

Later, in Atlanta, Usher performed and emphasized the importance of the upcoming election. ‘It’s just 17 days away from a very important election,’ he reminded attendees.

Harris’s visit coincided with the first day of in-person early voting in Detroit, where over 1 million mail-in ballots had already been received. States like North Carolina and Georgia are also seeing record early voting turnout, which analysts suggest could favor Democrats.

While in Michigan, Harris reiterated her call for a ceasefire in Gaza amidst criticism from Arab and Muslim Americans regarding the U.S. support for Israel. She also addressed recent negative comments from Donald Trump about Detroit, saying, ‘Put some respect on Detroit’s name.’

This week, former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are also expected to hit the campaign trail, aiming to boost voter turnout as the race tightens.
