“Social revolution is the sole solution for alleviation of all kinds of inequalities and exploitation,” national secretary of the All-India Krishak Khet Mazdoor Sangathan (AIKKMS) Shankar Ghosh has said.

Addressing a delegate conference held as part of the Second State-Level Farmers’ and Farm Labourers’ Convention, Ghosh said that while India got independence from British imperialists in 1947, the sad part was that the working class of the nation had not got real freedom yet.

Recalling the contribution of Shivadas Ghosh in building the organisation of the working class, he said the organisers and coordinators required revolutionary like boldness and should have the ability to convert an adverse situation into an advantage. And this ability could be acquired only when one understood the strength of the working class and the strength should be focussed towards bringing about comprehensive changes in society, he said.

Referring to the Delhi farmers’ agitation, he said that the AIKKMS did not lead the year-long agitation in Delhi but it acted as a watchdog so that the leading organisations of the movement did not digress from the main path. “When some organisations wanted to end the agitation by agreeing to the ‘eye-wash’ proposals of the Government, our organisation once again mobilised farmers and gave new lease of life to the movement,” he said.

State secretary of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) K Uma said that in the garb of the Communist government, fake Communists tried to implement policies of globalisation in theStates of West Bengal and Kerala and wanted to hand over fertile farmland of farmers to big corporate companies disregarding the farmers’ interests. However, the AIKKMS took it upon itself to lead the agitation against the business tycoons and the anti-farmer government to drive away the business tycoons, she said.

On the divisive politics being played about in the run-up to the next elections, she said that India had communal harmony in its blood and efforts by vested and communal forces to divert the attention of the people and divide the society for political gains would not succeed.

Resolutions

During the conference, various resolutions, including one on protecting communal harmony in the country and the State in particular, were presented and approved. SUCI office-bearers Ramanjanappa Aldalli, Gangadhar Badiger, and others were present.

The new State body of the organisation was also chosen on the occasion. HV Diwakar was unanimously elected as the new State president of the AIKKMS and Bhagavan Reddy,V Nagammal, HV Shivaprakash, Laxman Jadagannavar, and Sharanagouda Googal were elected as vice-presidents.This apart, a 20-member executive committee and 107-member general council was elected. Other office-bearers are: M Shashidhar, Secretary; SB Mahesh, V Deepa, Govind Ballari – associate secretaries; and Ganapathrao, treasurer.
