Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced on Thursday that the state government is introducing modern technologies in the fisheries sector to boost productivity and sustainability. He emphasized the importance of supporting fish farmers and fisherfolk through training and financial assistance to advance the sector.
In his address, CM Tamang reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable fishing practices, preserving aquatic ecosystems, and supporting the welfare of fisherfolk. He acknowledged the vital role of fisheries in ensuring food security, sustaining livelihoods, and maintaining ecological balance, stating that fish farming is both an economic activity and part of the state’s culture.
Tamang praised the Department of Fisheries for its dedication, which has positively impacted farmers and increased productivity, fostering self-reliance. He encouraged government employees to continue their efforts, as the fisheries sector holds significant promise for the prosperity of farming and fishing communities.
The event, themed “India’s Blue Transformation: Strengthening Small-Scale and Sustainable Fisheries,” was celebrated in Gangtok. CM Tamang also expressed gratitude to the Union Government delegates attending the event, appreciating their presence and support for the sector’s sustainable development.
