The total number of mobile number portability (MNP) requests has risen since the service was first introduced. By the end of September 2024, the cumulative number of MNP requests stood at 1,039.11 million, up from 1,025.78 million at the end of August. In September alone, 13.32 million new MNP requests were made, slightly lower than the 14.66 million requests recorded in August, a report said on Thursday.
The number of active wireless subscribers in India as of September was 1,059.97 million. The data also showed a small increase in machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular mobile connections, which grew from 54.07 million at the end of August to 54.64 million in September.
On the other hand, India’s broadband subscriber base saw a decline, dropping from 949.21 million in August to 944.40 million in September, a decrease of 0.51%. Similarly, total wireless subscribers dropped by 0.87%, from 1,163.83 million in August to 1,153.72 million in September.
India’s wireless tele-density decreased slightly from 82.85% in August to 82.07% in September, while wireline subscribers saw a modest increase of 1.93%, rising from 36.23 million to 36.93 million.
Bharti Airtel had the highest share of M2M mobile connections with 28.44 million, holding a market share of 52.06%. The private sector dominated wireless subscribers, with a market share of 91.85%, leaving BSNL and MTNL with just 8.15%.
