RG Kar scam whistleblower to file court case over hospital irregularities

Kolkata

Akhter Ali, the former deputy superintendent of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, who exposed financial irregularities at the institution, is now taking legal action over similar issues at another state-run hospital. After his petition led to a Calcutta High Court order for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the R.G. Kar case, Ali has now turned his attention to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital.

Ali alleges that health and security workers at Murshidabad, who served tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic, were unjustly dismissed with the promise of being reinstated. Instead of being brought back, new recruits were hired to replace them, with claims of recruitment happening in exchange for hefty commissions. Ali has now decided to file a petition in court on behalf of the terminated workers. His legal team is already gathering the necessary documents for the case.

Ali had previously reported the irregularities to the West Bengal health department in 2022 and to the anti-corruption agency, but no action was taken. With no response from the authorities, Ali is now seeking justice through the courts, following his earlier success in bringing attention to the R.G. Kar scandal.
