A protest was organized by Chikodi Jilla Horata Samiti activists and other social groups over the recent death of a new mother at Chikodi’s Mother-Child Hospital. The protesters claimed that the woman, identified as Fiza Atif Sanadi, did not receive necessary and timely treatment, which they alleged led to her death. A memorandum demanding action against the officials responsible was submitted to the Health Minister and Chief Minister through the Assistant Commissioner.
Social worker Chandrakant Hukkeri addressed the protesters, stating that the hospital was built to serve rural residents in Chikodi with support from former MP Prakash Hukkeri and MLA Ganesh Hukkeri at a cost of over Rs 28 crore. However, he said the hospital has not provided adequate services to the poor. Hukkeri asserted that the officials’ negligence directly caused the woman’s death and urged the government to take immediate action.
Chikodi Jilla Horata Samiti President, Sanju Badiger, also spoke, emphasizing that government emplosyees cannot hold other positions or perform private work, yet doctors at the hospital have disregarded their responsibilities. Badiger called on the Health Minister to investigate and take legal action against those responsible, urging justice for the family. He warned that further protests would follow if similar incidents occur.
The Tahsildar, Pramila Deshpande, accepted the memorandum and stated it would be forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner for further action. Several local leaders and activists attended the protest.
