Transport and Muzarai Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that the long-delayed recruitment process for transport companies would be completed within the next two months. He revealed that 9,000 personnel are currently under recruitment, with an additional 1,000 being hired on a compassionate basis. This announcement came during the 27th foundation day celebration of the Northwest Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) on Friday.
Minister Reddy also highlighted several employee welfare initiatives, including the distribution of silver medals to drivers with accident- and crime-free service records. Additionally, under the accident insurance scheme, the families of deceased employees will receive Rs. 1 crore. Passengers can now purchase tickets via UPI, and employees and their families can access medical treatment through the Transport Sanjeevini cashless medical scheme.
Labour and District In-charge Minister Santhosh Lad mentioned that 584 out of 800 buses have already been provided to the transport corporation, with the remaining buses expected by the end of December. He also proposed increasing the Employees’ Family Welfare Fund from Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh.
NWKRTC Chairman Bharamagowda Alagowda Kage announced the inauguration of 100 new eco-friendly BS-6 rural model vehicles, which include safety features like vehicle tracking, CCTV cameras, and panic buttons. He also mentioned that 350 electric buses are being procured under the GCC model, with the tender process currently underway.
NWKRTC Managing Director M Priyanga and other officials were also present at the event.
