Perth Scorchers have signed New Zealand World Cup champion Brooke Halliday as an overseas replacement for the remainder of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season. Halliday, 29, will step in for England’s Amy Jones, who is set to join her national team for an upcoming multi-format series in South Africa, the club said on Thursday.
Jones, the English wicketkeeper-batter, will play her final match for the Scorchers against Sydney Thunder today (Friday) before leaving the league. Halliday is expected to make her WBBL debut in the Scorchers’ game against the Adelaide Strikers at Karen Rolton Oval on November 19.
“I got the call last Wednesday, so I had a little bit of a heads-up, which has been nice,” Halliday told cricket.com.au. “I’m excited and looking forward to the experience, especially since I know Sophie Devine, which helps with settling into the team.” Halliday also shared her enthusiasm about playing at the WACA ground and facing strong teams like the Sixers.
With experience from 76 international matches (35 ODIs and 41 T20Is) since her debut in 2021, Halliday brings skill and versatility to the Scorchers. Recently, she was a key part of New Zealand’s maiden T20 World Cup victory, playing in all six matches.
The Scorchers have announced an unchanged 13-player squad for their upcoming match against the Thunder at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. Currently third on the WBBL 10 table, the Scorchers are looking to continue their winning momentum after a recent 74-run victory over the Thunder.
