In the areas near the Bhima and Krishna rivers, many farmers are struggling to harvest their paddy crops due to rising rental costs for harvesting machinery and a drop in paddy prices, which has left them anxious.
Farmers in villages like Konkal, Gondenoor, Chennur, Tumkur, Hayyal, Bendebembli, Godihal, Kumanur and others have grown paddy in their fields. The rental rate for harvesting machines, which was previously Rs 1,800 per hour, has now increased to Rs 2,200-2,300 per hour, which has become a burden for farmers.
Last year, the paddy price ranged from Rs 1,850 to 2,200 per quintal. However, this year, the price has dropped to Rs 1,650 to 1,750 per quintal for wet paddy harvested from fields, leading to significant financial strain for farmers.
Farmers are urging district officials to consider reducing the rental rates for paddy harvesting equipment and to open procurement centers to support them during this difficult time.
