Sixty-four-year-old Tibetan Jamyang Tenzin has set off on a cycling journey from Tawang to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to raise awareness about Tibetan issues and China’s occupation of Tibet. Tenzin has already cycled around 2,387 km and reached Bodh Gaya after cycling for over a month and two weeks.
Tenzin explained that his mission is to highlight Tibet’s significance to India, particularly its strategic importance in border security. He emphasized the need for India and its people to reflect on Tibet’s role, stating, it is important for India and the Indian people to think about Tibet.
Tenzin began his journey on September 27, known as ‘Black Day’ by Tibetans, marking the 1987 massacre in Lhasa, where many Lamas, young people, and protesters were killed. He noted that the ongoing threat to Tibetan culture, including the forced removal of children from monasteries and families, is a serious concern.
Having traveled through areas such as Sikkim, Gangtok, Assam, and Jharkhand, Tenzin aims to reach Jantar Mantar to continue his awareness campaign. He wants to shed light on how China’s policies are eroding Tibetan culture and threatening the future of Tibet’s people.
