In the upcoming thriller Sacrifice, directed by Romain Gavras, a star-studded cast is taking shape. Joining the likes of Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek, and Sam Richardson are Charli XCX, Vincent Cassel, and John Malkovich, adding to an already impressive ensemble. The film is currently being filmed in Greece and Bulgaria, generating excitement among fans.
Sacrifice is inspired by the legend of Joan of Arc, with Anya Taylor-Joy portraying Joan as she hears a prophecy that no one else can. Driven by her mission to save humanity, she leads her followers to hijack a lavish charity gala, taking three guests hostage to fulfill her plans. Among the captives are Mike Tyler, played by Chris Evans, a troubled actor seeking redemption; Bracken, portrayed by Vincent Cassel, the world’s wealthiest man; and Katie, played by Ambika Mod, who finds herself in a chaotic situation by chance.
The film explores their perilous journey and the moral dilemmas they face, focusing particularly on Mike’s internal struggle with the question of what he would sacrifice to save humanity. The diverse cast also includes Swedish rapper Yung Lean, Jeremy O. Harris from Emily in Paris, Jade Croot from The Serpent Queen, and Tony Award winner Miriam Silverman. With Gavras co-writing the screenplay alongside Succession writer Will Arbery, this modern twist on a classic tale promises a gripping narrative. In addition, Charli XCX is set to star in a feminist fairy tale, signaling her growing presence in the film industry.
