Right to express opinion not limited to politicians: Pejawar Seer

Must read

Mangaluru

Pejawar Mutt pontiff Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, in a veiled attack, criticised Congress MLC BK Hariprasad for his recent remarks on the seer.
Delivering a speech during a religious meet held at the Chitrapur Mutt in Kulai, the seer expressed his outburst without mentioning Hariprasad’s name, where the latter had criticised the Pejawar seer for expressing his opinion on the caste census recently.
Those who claim the caste system is the root of evils are the ones nurturing it. On one hand, they claim to be secular, yet on the other, they promote caste in every sector. I did not invite anyone and gave my opinion, but the system asked for my response. In my opinion, what is the need for a census on caste and tribes when you claim to be secular. They say what I stated is wrong and that I am playing petty politics, the seer said.
Further, the seer sought to know whether we are in a democratic nation or not. If it is a democratic nation, then not only a religious leader, but a common citizen also has the right to speak. In this context, what does it mean when someone says they will respond only if someone comes removing saffron clothes. Does the right to speak in society belong only to certain politicians, he asked.
Therefore, I pray to God to grant wisdom to such politicians, the seer said.
