MLA Ashok Kumar Rai announced that a significant drinking water project worth Rs 1,010 crore has been approved for the Puttur constituency. He informed reporters that Rs 400 crore has already been allocated, and work is currently in progress. This project will also benefit 28 villages in the nearby Sullia constituency.
In total, Rs 1,476 crore has been earmarked for various development initiatives in the constituency for the fiscal year 2023-24. Rai mentioned that Puttur is set to receive additional funding to develop 68 kilometers of roads under the Namma Grama Namma Raste scheme. He also outlined plans to enhance the Sangama site at the Sahasralingeshwara Temple in Uppinangady, similar to Kudala Sangama, and improvements at the Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur. A detailed project report costing Rs 570 crore has been submitted to NABARD to promote tourism in the area.
Regarding the proposal for a government medical college in Puttur, Rai confirmed that 40 acres of land has already been set aside, with hopes for approval in the next budget. He also mentioned that the Karnataka State Cricket Association is interested in building two stadiums in Puttur.
Additionally, fruit-bearing trees will be planted along roadsides in Puttur taluk to support local wildlife. The Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Union Limited plans to open a new facility on 15 acres of land, which will create local job opportunities.
