A suicide blast in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals, including six law enforcement personnel. The attack occurred at the Aslam Check Post in Mir Ali tehsil of the North Waziristan tribal district, which borders Afghanistan.

The assailants, riding three-wheelers, targeted the police picket and security vehicles. Among the deceased are four policemen, two soldiers, and two civilians, with many others injured and rushed to Miran Shah Hospital. Sources indicate that the casualty count may rise as more information comes in.

This attack is part of a troubling trend, as Pakistan has seen a significant increase in terrorist activities since the Taliban regained control in Afghanistan in 2021. The provinces bordering Afghanistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, have been hotspots for such violence.

In recent weeks, anti-terrorism operations in North Waziristan have resulted in the elimination of around a dozen militants. A report from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) noted a staggering 90% increase in fatalities related to terrorist violence and counter-terrorism efforts in the country during the third quarter of 2024.
