Karnataka has reported crop damage across over 56,993 hectares following 66% heavy rainfall during October. Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda announced that a joint crop survey will be conducted in the next three days, and affected farmers will receive compensation through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) within the next fortnight.
Byregowda spoke to the media after inspecting the overflowing Sangenahalli Lake and damaged properties in Hiremallanhole. He noted that October has seen the highest rainfall during the winter season, and the final assessment of crop loss may exceed initial estimates.
Additionally, 2,589 houses collapsed during the monsoon, with compensation plans in place for those affected. Illegal structures on government land that fell will receive Rs 1 lakh in compensation through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). The minister indicated that payments for monsoon crop losses will be finalized shortly.
Officials from the Revenue, Agriculture, and Horticulture departments were present during the inspection.
