Central govt agrees to buy groundnuts at support price

Agriculture Marketing Minister Shivananda Patil announced that the Central Government has approved the State Government’s request to purchase groundnuts at the support price. Farmers in Koppala, Dharwad, Haveri, Ballari, Chitradurga, Gadag, Bagalkot, Davanagere, Raichur, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara districts will receive Rs 6,783 per quintal.
This marks the first time groundnuts will be included in the Support Price Scheme, which previously covered seven agricultural products: copra, milling coconut, green gram, black gram, soyabean, sunflower, and cotton. The initiative aims to support farmers during price declines.
Two central agencies and four state agencies have been designated for groundnut procurement. District task force committees have been instructed to establish procurement centers and initiate the registration process in collaboration with NAFED, NCCF, and other agencies.
The Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth procurement process and directed District Collectors to take necessary precautions to avoid any issues. He urged for proper preparations before starting the registration and purchasing process, warning against any complaints from procurement centers.
