Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, has expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the upcoming bypolls in Uttar Pradesh. He stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to face a significant defeat. The Samajwadi Party and Congress are collaborating as part of the INDIA alliance to strengthen their opposition against the BJP. Yadav emphasized that their aim is to not only win these bypolls but also to challenge the BJP in the 2027 assembly elections.
In a recent announcement, it was confirmed that candidates from the INDIA alliance will contest the bypolls using the Samajwadi Party’s symbol, the cycle. The focus will be on winning, rather than merely securing a number of seats.
The Election Commission has announced that bypolls will be held for nine of the ten vacant assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on November 13, excluding Milkipur in Ayodhya. The seats included in this election are Meerapur, Kundarki, Khair, Karhal, Phulpur, and Katehari. Counting of votes is scheduled for November 23.
