The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed strong opposition to the demolition of homes for the Musi Riverfront Development project on Friday. The party organized a protest at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park, urging the Congress government to abandon plans to evict residents living along the river.

The protest was led by Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, who also serves as the state BJP president. He was joined by Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP OBC Morcha national president K. Laxman, and several MPs.

During the rally, Kishan Reddy emphasized that the BJP stands with the poor and will not permit the government to tear down their homes. He clarified that while the party supports efforts to rejuvenate the Musi, it opposes any actions that would displace long-term residents.

He challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s claims that opposition parties want people to endure poor living conditions, questioning if any residents had complained about living near the river. Reddy suggested constructing retaining walls instead of demolishing houses, advocating for development without displacement.

He criticized the Congress government for starting demolitions, claiming they have broken promises made to voters, and likened their actions to those of the previous BRS government, labeling both as anti-people in their policies.
