Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name in history by becoming the youngest Indian cricketer to reach 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year. The 22-year-old achieved the feat on Day 2 of the second Test against New Zealand in Pune on Friday, surpassing the previous record held by Dilip Vengsarkar, who reached the milestone in 1979 at the age of 23.

Jaiswal has been in stellar form in 2024, scoring 1,007 runs across 10 matches at an impressive average of 59.23. His tally includes two centuries and six half-centuries. With six more Tests left in the year, including the ongoing match in Pune, Jaiswal has a chance to challenge the record for most Test runs in a calendar year by an Indian, currently held by Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 1,562 runs in 2010.

Among Indian openers, Jaiswal is second in line for the most Test runs in a calendar year, behind Virender Sehwag, who scored 1,462 runs in 2008. Jaiswal is also trailing behind England’s Joe Root, who has amassed 1,305 runs in 14 matches so far in 2024.
