Gujarat recently welcomed Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez for the opening of the Tata-Airbus manufacturing facility in Vadodara. This visit signifies a key step in enhancing cooperation between India and Spain, according to an official press release.
With its strategic location and strong industrial base, Gujarat has become a major hub for trade between the two countries. Its top ports, like Mundra and Kandla, have boosted trade volumes, making the state an attractive destination for Spanish investments in sectors such as automotive, renewable energy, and manufacturing.
Several prominent Spanish companies have established operations in Gujarat, drawn by the state’s business-friendly policies and skilled workforce. Notable examples include Grupo Antolin, which began production in Sanand in 2015, and Siemens Gamesa, which has set up a wind energy manufacturing plant in Halol. The Tata-Airbus project, which will produce military aircraft in India, further strengthens ties in the defense sector.
Gujarat’s exports to Spain reached USD 0.94 billion in 2023-24, focusing on organic chemicals, machinery, and iron products. Cultural and educational exchanges are also growing, with increasing interest in Spanish art and cuisine. As India and Spain’s trade relationship expands—now valued at USD 7.24 billion Gujarat looks forward to enhancing mutual prosperity through deeper ties.
