Sudan denies UAE attack allegations

New Delhi

Sudan has denied claims that its military attacked the UAE Ambassador’s residence in Khartoum, calling the accusations ‘fabricated.’ Hassan Ali Osman Mahmoud, the Sudanese Charge d’Affaires, firmly rejected the allegations on Thursday, which were made by the UAE government in September.

The UAE had stated that a Sudanese military aircraft bombed its ambassador’s residence in Khartoum, labeling it a ‘heinous attack.’ However, Mahmoud insists that Sudan’s military did not target any diplomatic property. He urged India and the global community to pressure the UAE to retract its claims and called for humanitarian aid to Sudan.

The UAE’s accusations come amid ongoing conflict in Sudan between the military government and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The government has accused the UAE of supporting the RSF, providing financial and military aid, which it says has prolonged the war. In June, Sudan’s ambassador to the United Nations also claimed that the UAE’s support was a key factor behind the extended conflict.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has expressed concern over the alleged attack and emphasized that diplomatic premises should remain inviolable during conflicts. The ministry is closely monitoring the security situation in Sudan, where tensions continue to rise.

The war between the Sudanese military and the RSF has lasted over a year, killing tens of thousands of people and creating a severe humanitarian crisis.
