Pakistani security forces have killed nine militants, including two suicide bombers, during an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The military announced this news on Thursday, stating that the operation took place late on October 23 in the Bajaur district.
The operation, based on intelligence reports, resulted in a fierce gunbattle. Among the dead was a high-value target who was a leader of a militant group. The military reported that these militants were involved in various attacks against both security forces and civilians. In addition to the fatalities, the forces recovered a large amount of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the militants.
This action comes as Pakistan has seen a rise in violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. A recent report from the Centre for Research and Security Studies in Islamabad indicated that deaths from terrorist activities have surpassed those from the previous year. In 2023, there were 1,523 fatalities, but this year, that number has already reached 1,534.
The report highlighted that 722 people, including civilians and security personnel, have been killed in about 328 incidents during the third quarter of this year. The military continues its efforts to ensure security and eliminate any remaining militant threats in the region.
