As India begins to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to empower millions and promote accessibility, experts indicated on Tuesday that this technology holds immense promise, particularly in healthcare and education. AI is making notable advances in healthcare, from disease detection to drug manufacturing. In education, it fosters digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.

Dr. Rohini Srivathsa, Chief Technology Officer of Microsoft India and South Asia, emphasized at the NDTV World Summit 2024 that healthcare and education are two sectors where AI can achieve previously impossible tasks. She illustrated this by mentioning an AI assistant that helps doctors stay updated on global disease trends. Additionally, she highlighted AI’s role in promoting linguistic diversity, allowing people to learn languages beyond English.

Saurabh Kumar Sahu, Managing Director at Accenture, noted the rapid pace of AI development in India, stating, AI is growing faster than its applications. We need not worry about its pace. He underscored that AI represents Atmanirbhar India, focusing on its use for the country’s benefit.

Moreover, Srivathsa introduced Microsoft’s Shiksha Co-pilot, a generative AI tool launched to assist teachers in Karnataka by creating personalized lesson plans for students of varying skill levels.
