Karnataka School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced that a total of 18,000 teachers will soon be recruited across the state, including 12,000 for government schools and 6,000 for aided schools. Speaking at the Government Senior Primary School in Beluru Kusuburu village, Monday Pete, Kodagu, the minister highlighted the state government’s initiatives under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to strengthen government schools. As part of these efforts, pre-primary education (LKG and UKG) has been introduced in schools.
The government has approved the establishment of around 900 KPS schools across each gram panchayat area, with free transportation facilities provided for students. Focus is also on improving the quality of education in government schools, constructing new buildings where necessary, providing free electricity, and conducting special evening classes to enhance learning outcomes. Overall, significant attention is being given to the development and improvement of government schools across Karnataka.
Currently, the state has 46,000 government schools and 57,000 aided schools, educating approximately 1.16 crore students from LKG to 12th grade across government, aided, and unaided schools. Minister Bangarappa emphasized that education is key to national development, and the government is prioritizing infrastructure and quality education despite existing challenges.
Additionally, CCTV cameras are being installed to improve monitoring during SSLC and PUC-II exams. Measures such as staggered exams with a 25-day interval have been implemented to avoid disruption in students’ academic progress. This year, around 1.16 lakh students have successfully passed their examinations.
Speaking at the event, MLA Dr. Manthar Gowda stressed that teachers hold a critical responsibility in shaping students’ futures, and everyone must work together to support the development of government schools in the state.
