A Nashik Court has instructed the MIDC Sinnar Police Station to file a first information report (FIR) against Girish Siriram Juneja, the Resolution Professional (RP) of Hindustan National Gas & Industries Limited (HNGIL). This decision comes after a significant gas leak and fire incident at the HNGIL plant on December 29, 2023. In his ruling on October 19, Joint Judicial Magistrate First Class K.S. Khandre stated that Juneja had responsibilities not only to the company and the court but also to the safety of workers.

The court highlighted that Juneja’s alleged misconduct and negligence resulted in criminal actions, although there were no casualties in the incident. A complaint from senior employee Manoj C. Wadhavane pointed to violations of safety regulations, as indicated by a report from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. The court deemed the offenses serious enough to warrant a police investigation.

Additionally, concerns were raised by employees and Supreme Court judges regarding Juneja’s actions, suggesting he may have favored AGI Greenpac, a company looking to acquire HNGIL amid claims that the plant’s maintenance was neglected. Employees feared that AGI Greenpac was more interested in the land than in operating the plant, especially given that HNGIL has significant funds available.
