Former England captain Alastair Cook believes that, at this moment, Joe Root is only rivaled by New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in terms of form. Both players are prominent figures in the so-called ‘Fab Four,’ which also includes Virat Kohli and Steven Smith. Over time, Root has steadily established himself as a leading figure in Test cricket, outshining his top competitors.
Currently, Root has amassed an impressive total of 12,716 runs, just 3,206 runs shy of surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run-scorer in Test history. In recent years, Root has consistently performed well, regardless of the opposition, captivating cricket fans with his remarkable skills.
During an ICC round-table interview, Cook noted, ‘I find it hard to see anyone playing as well as Joe Root right now. Among the so-called ‘Big Four,’ Williamson and Root are probably in the best form’, he said. He praised each player for their unique styles and methods, highlighting their shared determination to improve and score runs.
Root is currently competing in a three-match Test series against Pakistan, where he has been the second-highest run-scorer after the first two Tests, accumulating 314 runs with an average of 104.67. As the series decider in Rawalpindi approaches, Root will be eager to enhance his performance further.
