Indian government has announced a significant allocation ofRs.35,000 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) program. This initiative aims to provide fair prices for farmers and stabilize market prices for consumers.
The decision was made during a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as shared by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The PM-AASHA scheme seeks to protect farmers from distress sales during peak harvesting seasons, a time when they often face pressure to sell their crops at lower prices. By ensuring that farmers receive better compensation for their produce, the government hopes to improve their livelihoods and reduce the financial burden they face.
Additionally, the program aims to promote self-sufficiency in the production of essential commodities like pulses and oilseeds. This will not only enhance farmers’ incomes but also safeguard consumers’ interests by stabilizing prices in the market.
The scheme will be in effect until 2025-26, underlining the government’s commitment to support the agricultural sector and improve food security in the country. With this investment, the government is taking a crucial step toward empowering farmers and ensuring they can sustain their livelihoods while contributing to the nation’s economy.
