The Mumbai Indians (MI), five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have announced the appointment of Paras Mhambrey as their new bowling coach, the franchise said on Wednesday.

Mhambrey, who previously served as India’s bowling coach from November 2021 until the team’s triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup in June, will collaborate with current bowling coach Lasith Malinga as part of the coaching staff led by head coach Mahela Jayawardene. This will be Mhambrey’s second stint with the Mumbai Indians, having been part of the support team during their successful campaigns in 2013 and earlier T20 tournaments.

Having played two Tests and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India between 1996 and 1998, Mhambrey had a distinguished domestic career, winning the Ranji Trophy five times with Mumbai. He holds a Level 3 coaching diploma from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and has coached several state teams, including Maharashtra and Bengal.

He also played a significant role as a coach for India’s U19 team, leading them to a runners-up finish in the 2020 U19 World Cup in South Africa. Mhambrey gained recognition for transforming India into a formidable bowling unit, praised for his analytical approach and tactical planning, particularly noted by senior pacer Mohammed Shami during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
