Tension gripped Baharampur in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Wednesday following the murder of a local Trinamool Congress leader, Pradip Dutta. Reports indicate that Dutta was out for a morning walk when unidentified assailants approached and fired seven bullets at him from close range.

Upon hearing the gunshots, residents rushed outside and found Dutta bleeding heavily. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The local police responded swiftly, deploying a large contingent from the Baharampur Police Station to the scene.

Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind Dutta’s murder, considering both political motives and personal grudges. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and investigators are reviewing CCTV footage in hopes of identifying the attackers. Additionally, police are interviewing local residents to gather more information about the incident.

In a separate but equally alarming event in Domkal, also in Murshidabad, a man named Momin Mondal was killed by the explosion of a crude bomb. The blast was so powerful that it dismembered his body. Investigators believe the explosion occurred while Mondal was assembling crude bombs, a claim corroborated by family members who acknowledged his involvement in such activities. Police have sent the body parts for post-mortem and are conducting an inquiry into this incident.
