The much-anticipated Hockey India League (HIL) auction is set to take place from October 13 to 15, featuring over 1,000 national and international players. This marks the league’s return after a seven-year hiatus, introducing an expanded format that includes both men’s and women’s leagues running concurrently.
The men’s players’ auction will be held on October 13 and 14, while the historic women’s auction is scheduled for October 15. Hockey India stated that this auction not only revives an exciting competition but also significantly promotes women’s hockey in India.
Among the registered players, over 400 are domestic and more than 150 are international for the men’s event, while the women’s pool includes 250 domestic and 70 overseas players. Players are categorized into three base price groups: ₹2,00,000, ₹5,00,000, and ₹10,00,000.
Each team will comprise 24 players, including 16 Indian players (with four junior players required) and eight overseas players. The HIL 2024-25 season will kick off on December 28 in Rourkela, Odisha, with matches hosted at two venues: Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi and Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. The women’s final is set for January 26 in Ranchi, while the men’s final will take place on February 1 in Rourkela.
