German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s upcoming visit to India in October is set to strengthen ties between the two nations, according to Jens-Michael Bopp, Head of Division for skilled immigration at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office. Bopp emphasized that this visit provides a chance to discuss the progress made since a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed two years ago.
German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, described the latter part of October as a German Mohotsav, coinciding with Scholz’s visit for Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC). Scholz is expected to arrive in New Delhi with a significant delegation of seven to eight ministers. Ackermann noted the simultaneous Asia Pacific conference, which will attract many top German CEOs eager to explore business opportunities in India and Asia.
The ambassador highlighted the growing defense cooperation between India and Germany, noting recent discussions between Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius. They reviewed ongoing defense collaborations, focusing on strengthening industrial ties and supply chain resilience.
Scholz’s previous visit in February 2023 included high-level discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the release of a joint paper on innovation and technology cooperation. This visit marks a continued effort to deepen the partnership, building on a long history of diplomatic relations established soon after World War II.
