New Delhi
A letter was sent to the Election Commission of India (ECI) by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday, expressing concerns about the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls in Delhi. In the letter, AAP referred to an ECI notice from August 7. The notice mentioned a plan to move voters from booths with over 1,500 voters to those with fewer than 1,500.
Concerns were raised by AAP about the logistics of this redistribution. It was noted that over 650 people voting at one booth in the 11-hour voting period on Election Day would be difficult. The party stated that with a total voting time of 11 hours, it is not possible for more than 650 voters to be processed at a single booth. Based on past data, AAP argued that no polling booth should have more than 1,000 voters.
Recommendations were made by AAP to the ECI. It was suggested that voters only be moved to booths with fewer than 1,000 voters, and a cap of 1,000 voters per booth should be set. AAP also recommended that family members be assigned to the same polling booth and that no voter be sent to booths further from their current location. Additionally, AAP suggested creating more booths if needed. The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February next year.
