MLC by-poll: Four candidates in Fray

The by-election for the legislative council from the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi local authorities’ constituency will feature four candidates. Independent candidate Muhammed Riyaz has withdrawn his nomination. The candidates are BR Kishore (BJP), Raju Poojary (Congress), S Anwar Sadat (SDPI), and Dinakar Ullal (Independent).

Polling is scheduled for October 21 at 392 booths across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, from 8 AM to 4 PM. A total of 6,032 voters are eligible, including 3,127 women and 2,905 men. Dakshina Kannada will have 234 polling booths, while Udupi will have 158.

Eligible voters include gram panchayat members, corporators from the Mangaluru City Corporation, members of city municipal councils, town municipal councils, town panchayats, MLAs, MLCs, and Lok Sabha members.

Election observer Pankaj Kumar Pandey from the Election Commission of India reviewed the election preparations at the deputy commissioner’s office, directing officials on necessary arrangements for the election and vote counting. Vote counting is set to take place at St. Aloysius PU College in Mangaluru on October 24. Officials present included Udupi Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K, city police commissioner Anupam Agrawal, and various other local authorities.
