Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to implement reforms in Karnataka’s recruitment system, aiming for a uniform approach similar to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) model. The directive was given after reviewing the progress of appointments in various government departments.

A meeting of recruiting authorities was held last week to discuss improvements in the recruitment process. The Chief Minister has instructed that recommendations from the meeting be reviewed and corrective measures taken.

It was noted that UPSC recruits only for Group A and B posts. Discussions have been held about limiting the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) to the recruitment of Group A and B posts, while the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) would handle other recruitments like Group C.

The Chief Minister has also directed that the circular issued in 2023 regarding the reservation of direct recruitment posts for indigenous people of Kalyan Karnataka under Article 371J be followed.

To address the 34,863 vacant posts across various departments, recruitment should be completed within a fixed time frame. Recruitment in essential services has been prioritized.

The preparation of an annual recruitment calendar has been encouraged. Departments must send proposals to the Finance Department at the start of the financial year regarding vacant positions.

The Chief Minister also called for the recruitment process to be inspected using Kerala’s model and suggested reviewing the practice of conducting the physical test first in PSI recruitment, as seen in the Excise department.
