A rowdy sheeter who was exiled last year from Nippani town by the police department was brutally murdered near Municipal High School in Nippani town. Superintendent of Police Dr Bhimashankar Guled visited and took stock of the situation. The police took eight persons into custody in connection with the case for interrogation.
Ashraf Ali Sher Ali Nagaraji, 22, a resident of Nippani, is the deceased.
The department had exiled him from Nippani a year ago. However, as the period of his exile ended in July, he returned. There are cases of murder, theft, chain snatching, and creating social disturbance registered against him in various police stations of Karnataka as well as in Maharashtra.
According to police sources, the incident took place when the deceased was heading to attend a birthday party of a relative along with his brother Saif Ali Nagaraji and a friend, Praveen Chougule. When they were passing the Bhimnagar area near Municipal High School, a group hidden behind the water tank attacked them with sharp weapons and made away from the spot, taking advantage of the darkness.
During the attack, all three were injured, while Ashraf’s condition became critical due to severe injuries to the head and hands. He was immediately shifted to the local govt hospital by his family members. As his condition was critical, he was again shifted to a hospital in Kolhapur city. However, he breathed his last before the treatment started.
Nippani town police registered an FIR against eight accused based on a complaint filed by the brother of the deceased, Saif Ali. Police sources said old enmity is the reason behind the incident.
