Pune Police have released sketches of two suspects linked to the alleged gang rape of a 21-year-old woman in the Bopdev Ghat area on the night of October 3. The authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information, providing contact numbers for Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar at the Kondhwa Police Station and other officers in the Crime Branch.
According to police reports, the victim had gone to the ghat with a friend when three unidentified men allegedly assaulted her around 11 PM. However, the incident was only reported to the police at approximately 5 AM the next day. To locate and apprehend the suspects, Pune’s Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma has formed ten teams from the Crime Branch and Detective Branch.
Following this incident, NCP-SCP working president Supriya Sule expressed her outrage and raised concerns about women’s safety in Pune and across the state. She criticized the state home department for failing to act against such crimes, stating, Incidents of violence against women are continuously increasing… Maharashtra is not safe for women.
NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar added that public anger is rising due to the growing violence against women, noting the contradiction between the government’s initiatives, like the Ladki Behan Yojana aimed at supporting women, and the increasing incidents of abuse.
