Acting on a public tip-off, the municipal commissioner raided the APMC market in Adi Udupi, where chemically-laced garlic of China origin was reportedly being sold.
Following information from traders, 12 tonnes of garlic suspected to be from China were confiscated. Municipal Commissioner Rayappa stated, we visited the APMC market based on information that chemically-laced China garlic is being sold. Samples have been sent to a Mangaluru laboratory, and further action will be taken once the report is received.
He added, no opportunity will be given to sell chemically-laced food products, vegetables, or garlic in APMC Udupi or any other markets under Udupi city municipality limits. Appropriate legal action will be taken.
