Usman Qadir, the 31-year-old leg-spinner and son of the famous Abdul Qadir, has announced his retirement from Pakistan cricket. During his career from 2020 to 2023, he took 32 wickets in 25 T20 Internationals and one One Day International for Pakistan.
In a heartfelt statement on his ‘X’ account, Usman expressed gratitude for his cricket journey. Today, I announce my retirement from Pakistan cricket. It has been a tremendous honor to represent my country, and I appreciate the support of my coaches and teammates throughout this journey, he said.
Usman reflected on the unforgettable victories and challenges he faced with his team, stating that these experiences shaped his career and enriched his life. He also thanked the passionate fans, acknowledging their unwavering support. As I enter this new chapter, I aim to continue my father’s legacy while embracing my love for cricket and the lessons he taught me, he added.
Usman, whose bowling action mirrored his father’s, began his cricketing career in the Under-19 World Cup in 2012. He initially considered representing Australia after debuting in the Sheffield Shield and Big Bash League in 2018. However, following his father’s death in 2019, he decided to play for Pakistan. His final appearance for the country was with the Dolphins in the recent Champions One-Day Cup.
