After a plea was filed in the Supreme Court contesting the Delhi Police’s prohibitory order, Chief Minister Atishi expressed hope for justice in this matter on Wednesday. She highlighted that many gatherings occur during the festive season and emphasized that such prohibitory measures could hurt people’s religious sentiments.
CM Atishi said, What kind of dictatorship is this? I can’t recall any similar restrictions imposed in the city or country during festival time. Navratri and Ramleela are starting soon, which are significant events in Hinduism. She pointed out that families hold various celebrations, including kirtans in streets and programs at temples. Preventing gatherings during this sacred time will naturally offend people’s religious feelings. This issue is now with the Supreme Court, and we hope for a fair resolution, she added.
AAP minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also criticized the Delhi Police and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for issuing an impractical order ahead of the festive season. The plea challenged the police order that bans gatherings of five or more people from September 30 to October 5, which could disrupt celebrations for Dussehra and Navratri. The petition argues that these restrictions jeopardize long-standing traditions in the city without any valid constitutional basis.
