Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has made a request to the Railway Ministry. The request was for the Mangaluru Central-Kabakaputtur-Mangaluru Central passenger train to be extended to Subrahmanya Road Station. The MP also asked for a Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) rake to be used instead of the current conventional rake.

Subrahmanya Road Station, located at Nettana on the Mangaluru-Hassan Railway line, serves the pilgrim centre Kukke Subrahmanya, which is about 12 km away. Currently, the Southern and South Western Railway (SWR) operate two round trips between Mangaluru Central and Kabakaputtur, along with one round trip to Subrahmanya Road.

Train No. 6485 departs Mangaluru Central at 5:10 am and arrives in Kabakaputtur at 6:50 am. Train No. 06484 leaves Kabakaputtur at 7:55 am and reaches Mangaluru Central at 9:25 am. In a letter to the Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager, Capt. Chowta stated that both trips to Kabakaputtur should also reach Subrahmanya Road.

This extension and the use of a MEMU rake would improve connectivity between Mangaluru and the surrounding areas, which include Kukke Subrahmanya. The extension is expected to offer a convenient way for local residents and pilgrims to travel. The Pashchima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivriddhi Samithi and the Kukke Shree Subrahmanya-Mangaluru Railway Commuters’ Forum also supported the extension of services to Subrahmanya Road.
