In celebration of World Heart Day, KMC Hospital, in partnership with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mangaluru Branch, Rotary Club International, and the Cardiology Society of Mangalore, has organized a walkathon on September 29, Sunday.
The event will begin at KMC Hospital, Dr. BR Ambedkar Circle, and will route through Balmatta-Hampankatta Junction, passing by IMA Hall, before concluding at Marena Sports Complex in Kaprigudda.
Dr. B Unnikrishnan, Dean of Kasturba Medical College, stated that the walkathon is part of a month-long initiative aimed at raising public awareness about heart diseases, their causes, and preventive measures. The goal is to encourage regular physical activity and promote heart health, empowering individuals to take charge of their cardiovascular well-being.
Deputy Commissioner MP Mullai Muhilan and DCP (Crime and Traffic) BP Dinesh Kumar will flag off the event, with national level athlete Ayush Devadiga serving as the torchbearer. Dr. Narasimha Pai, Head of the Cardiology Department, noted that this year’s theme, ‘Use Heart for Action,’ emphasizes the importance of prioritizing heart health. Dr. R Harish, a Senior Heart Surgeon, highlighted the rising cases of heart disease among younger individuals, stressing the need for early awareness and preventive measures. Dr. RK Ranjan, President of the IMA Mangalore Branch, underscored the importance of community involvement in combating cardiovascular diseases.
