The ‘Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City’ (KHIR-City) project is set to be launched by the Chief Minister on September 26. This project, claimed to be the first of its kind in India, will begin its first phase at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha, attended by notable figures from India and abroad.
The project will cover approximately 2,000 acres, with the initial phase planned for 500 acres. An investment of over Rs 40,000 crore is expected, which will create around 100,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.
KHIR-City is inspired by successful international models such as Singapore’s Biopolis and the Boston Innovation Cluster. Elements from Bengaluru’s existing Hi-tech City and Electronics City will also be included in the development. The site is located between Doddaballapura and Dobaspet, about 50 km from Kempegowda International Airport.
To ensure effective development, an advisory committee has been formed with experts from various fields. The city will be designed to support a residential density of 100 people per acre.
KHIR-City aims to enhance the state’s economy and improve exports, helping to position Bengaluru as a more prominent global player. It will include universities, hospitals, innovative industries, and research institutions, which will form the foundation of this project.
