The iconic ‘Pettai Rap’ song, which took the audience by storm in 1994, is back with a fresh twist for Prabhu Deva’s upcoming film of the same name. Originally featuring Prabhu Deva and Vadivelu breaking into a western-style dance in a Bharatanatyam institution, the song remains a favorite even after nearly three decades. This new version has been remastered to bring the classic track to a new generation of fans.
Directed by SJ Sinu, who is making his Tamil directorial debut with this film, ‘Petta Rap’ is penned by Dinil PK. SJ Sinu is known for directing Malayalam films like ‘Theru’ (2023) and ‘Djibouti’ (2021). Music composer D Imman has retained the original lyrics and vocals in this remastered version while adding a lively and modern beat to the track.
In addition to Prabhu Deva, ‘Petta Rap’ stars Vedhika in a lead role, alongside Bagavathi Perumal, Vivek Prasanna, Ramesh Thilak, Mime Gopi, and Riyaz Khan. The film is produced by Jobi P Sam, with cinematography by Jithu Damodhar and editing by Nishadh Yusuf. D Imman handles the music, keeping the essence of the original while adding new energy. So far, the makers have released the film’s teaser and four songs: ‘Aarathi Aarathi,’ ‘Athirattum Dum Dum Dum,’ ‘Dance Dance,’ and ‘Vechi Seyyuthe.’ The film has cleared the censor board with a U/A certificate.
‘Petta Rap’ is set to hit theaters on September 27, releasing alongside Vijay Antony’s ‘Hitler’ and Karthi’s ‘Meiyazhagan’.
