The central government has invited platform aggregators to register themselves and their workers on the e-Shram Portal. This is part of efforts to ensure gig and platform workers are covered under social security schemes. The Ministry of Labour and Employment announced that the registration process is essential to allow workers access to social welfare schemes.

An advisory with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been issued by the Ministry, outlining the responsibilities of aggregators, such as registering workers and updating their data. The e-Shram portal aims to register unorganised workers and provide them with a Universal Account Number (UAN), which will grant access to key social security benefits.

API integration has been tested with a few aggregators, and the registration process is progressing. Aggregators have been asked to update workers’ details, including work engagements and payments. Workers’ exits must also be reported promptly.

To assist in this process, a toll-free helpline has been set up to guide registration and resolve any technical issues. A meeting with platform aggregators will be chaired by the Union Minister of Labour and Employment to further encourage participation in this initiative. The government has expressed its commitment to extending social security to gig and platform workers under the Code on Social Security.
