India has ranked among the top three countries in carbon emission reporting, according to a recent report. The report revealed that 12 per cent of Indian companies are reporting emissions, higher than the global average of 9 per cent. India is positioned alongside Brazil and China in reporting standards, as companies in these nations are actively reporting emissions and working toward emission reduction targets.
The report highlighted that 24 per cent of Indian companies have set targets for reporting emissions, compared to the global average of 16 per cent. India is progressing in reducing emissions in line with the 1.5°C Paris Agreement, with 15 per cent of Indian companies meeting their targets, as opposed to the global average of 11 per cent.
The report emphasized that Indian companies are reducing their carbon footprint while also benefiting financially from these efforts. The survey, conducted across 26 countries, involved nearly 2,000 executives responsible for overseeing emissions measurement, reporting, and reduction initiatives. These organizations, from 16 industries, are responsible for about 45 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Only 9 per cent of companies globally reported comprehensive emission reporting, and 16 per cent had set targets across all scopes. Furthermore, 11 per cent of companies achieved emission reductions in line with their goals. These figures are lower than those reported by companies in 2023.
