The establishment of the Government Veterinary College and Hospital in Koila, Kadaba taluk, Dakshina Kannada, is on track to open in September next year. Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai announced the start date and stated that preparations are underway.

The state government has approved the hiring of 104 staff members, including 42 teaching positions. Rai recently met with Dr. KC Veeranna, Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, and other officials to discuss the progress. Rai instructed the officials to prepare the necessary documents for the Veterinary Council of India inspection and requested Rs 20 crore to speed up the completion of essential tasks.

Rai also directed the cleaning of the premises where the first phase of construction is finished. To meet the requirement for an animal farm, Rai proposed moving some animals, such as cows and pigs, from the Livestock Breeding and Training Centre in Koila to the college site.

The recruitment process for faculty has started, with 28 positions already approved and sent to the governor for final approval. The teaching staff will include professors, assistant professors, and associate professors, totaling 42 positions, including a dean. Appointments will follow UGC guidelines and include both permanent and contractual posts.

The college will be the seventh veterinary institution in Karnataka. Its establishment was first announced by former Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda in the 2012-13 budget.
